How to detect the source of a leak

When it comes to water leaks in a property, they can be difficult to locate. Tempest Restoration technicians use non intrusive leak detectors to accurately locate the problem without causing any damage to your property.

Here at Tempest, we used variety of systems to help locate the source of a leak:

Acoustic Listening Devices

Similar to ultra sonic devices, Acoustic listening devices are used to listen for the exact leak locations of internal and external leaks. “Hearing leaks” up to 2.5 metres below the surface. This allows for pinpoint accuracy by the technician.

Thermal Image Cameras

These are used by Tempest Restorations technicians to locate any damp or moisture patches on walls, floors and ceilings to aid identification of the leak source.

Tracer Gases

These are a safe mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen which are forced into water pipes at safe working pressures. These gases locate the smallest water leaks by escaping into the surrounding atmosphere. A machine detects the escape and pinpoints the leak location.

Leak Correlators

These are used to pinpoint leak locations on underground water pipes using electronic pulses. They are used to detect leaks across large external areas such as drives, private roads, industrial and commercial properties.

Issues relating to “hidden” water leaks

Water leaks in the home can come from anywhere it seems. Sometimes the source of a leak is, in relation the visual source, a long way away.

Central heating system leaks could leave you and your family without heating during cold spells. Central heating systems that are being refilled constantly suffer from oxidization – rusting your radiators & pipes from the inside out!

Water mains supply leaks can quickly cause subsidence of land including footpaths, drives, gardens and property.

Internal water leaks from pipes, tanks, underfloor heating & central heating systems cause an untold amount of damage to the property including damage to walls, floors and ceilings.

A risk of of health problems caused by damp mould, asthma, etc.

The affected property becomes home for many insects, bugs & mites who thrive in damp & dark conditions – under your floors and in your walls. Mould and mildew become present c/with expensive dry and wet rot.
